MaCCA's 10 Asks of Leaders of the next Australian Government

  1. Australia’s policy is to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by a minimum of:
  2. Australia’s policy is to source our energy from renewable energy sources; including solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, tidal, at a minimum of 25% by 2020.
  3. Australia’s policy is to build NO new coal fired power stations.
  4. Australia ratifies the Kyoto protocol.
  5. Australia will immediately put a price on carbon pollution such that it contributes to the growth of renewables and the phasing out of the coal fired power industry.
  6. Australia’s policy is to stabilize energy demand growth by 2010 and decreasing demand by 1.5% per year after 2010.
  7. Australia’s policy is to stop all broad-scale land clearing and high conservation value native forest logging immediately.
  8. That transport is addressed by removing tax incentives to drive cars further and contribute $1b of federal funding to improving public transport systems.
  9. That all of Australia’s Overseas Development Assistance (ODA) integrates climate change risk factors into all planning and program evaluation and that the majority of Australia’s ODA energy sector spending is on renewable energy, demand management and energy efficiency.
  10. That Australia does not build any nuclear reactors for power generation, does not accept nuclear waste dumps and discontinues uranium mining.
